The Avon Park Theater

About

The Avon Park Theater opened in 1938 as a small town, single screen movie theater.  It entertained generations of Avonites up until 2003.  The theater sat idle for 15 years until being purchased in 2018.  After extensive renovations, the theater re-opened in 2022.  The Avon Park Theater is still a movie theater showing classic and independent movies (sorry, no "first-runs"), and from September through May, we feature the best in Rochester and northeast regional bands and musicians.  We offer wine, beer, hard setzers and ciders, as well as soft drinks and bottled water.  Of course we serve popcorn, candy, and when we have live music, pizza!

Children are welcome at the Avon Park Theater but must be accompanied by an adult.  There may be certain shows open only to those 21 and up and it will be noted in event description.

Tickets

All tickets for live music and independent movies are sold through our ticketing partner, The Ticketing Co.  For live music we strongly encourage you to purchase tickets in advance to avoid disappointment.   Tickets are $5 more when purchased at the door before a show.

For classic movies, we do not offer advance sale tickets, but rather admission is paid at the door.

All ticket sales are final: no refunds or exchanges.  If a performance is cancelled due to weather conditions or other circumstances, refunds will be issued by the theater.

The theater has been renovated to be accessible to all.  If you have questions, or would like to request more information to ensure you are prepared for your visit please contact us a few days in advance to ensure we have an opportunity to respond.

History & Renovation

On July 30th, 1938, a grand parade was held to celebrate the opening of Avon's newest Park Theater. This new theater replaced the original Park Theater built circa 1912 as a nickelodeon theater. In describing the new theater, manager Clair Meachum proclaimed that 'Everything is being arranged not so much for show and ornamentation, but rather for the comfort of the people who are attendant at the shows.' The 'new' Park Theater would feature seats that were larger and more comfortable than any in Rochester and would also be one of the first theaters in the entire area to have air conditioning.

The Avon Park Theater has been completely renovated and re-imagined as a modern venue for classic and independent movies, live music and entertainment, and a unique venue for your next party, meeting or corporate event. In the spirit of its founder Clair Meachum, we've arranged it all for the comfort of the people who are attendant at…the Avon Park Theater!  Click on the "bubble" to the right to see actual footage from the opening day parade!
